The Modern day Tune Up

In the automotive world the modern day tune up is quite different than in your father’s day or your grandfathers day. Gone are points and condensers, distributor caps and rotors, carburetors etc. We still have spark plugs to change although the intervals on some cars are 100,000 mi. or more. So what does a tune up consist of? Aside from the afore mentioned spark plugs there is a myriad of data that a technician will analyze and also may do a fuel injection cleaning service ( see our article on direct injection ). One important component that gets overlooked is an engine management processor ( pcm )  update.  Similar to your Windows updates you receive on a regular basis to keep your computer’s operating system at peak performance, your car’s ” brain” needs to be updated to the latest software. Be sure to ask your technician if they can provide you with that service.
